Ideal Gas Law Calculator – Pressure from n, T & V
Calculate ideal-gas pressure from amount in moles, temperature in kelvin and volume in cubic metres using P = nRT/V.
This calculator solves the ideal-gas equation for pressure. It uses the implemented gas constant R = 8.314462618 J/(mol·K), temperature in kelvin and volume in cubic metres.
How it works
P = nRT / V, with R = 8.314462618 J/(mol·K). The result is returned in pascals and also shown approximately in kilopascals.
Example
For n = 1 mol, T = 300 K and V = 0.024 m³, the pressure is about 103,931 Pa, or about 103.9 kPa.
How to use
- Enter amount of gas in moles.
- Enter absolute temperature in kelvin.
- Enter volume in cubic metres.
- Calculate and review pressure in Pa and the approximate kPa value.
Key features
- Uses the implemented ideal-gas constant
- Kelvin temperature input
- Pa result with kPa helper
- Positive temperature and volume validation
Common uses
- Introductory chemistry problems
- Checking ideal-gas examples
- Comparing pressure changes when volume or temperature changes
Frequently asked questions
Can I enter Celsius directly?
No. The implemented formula expects absolute temperature in kelvin.
Is this valid for every real gas?
No. The ideal-gas law is an approximation and real gases can deviate from ideal behaviour, especially under extreme conditions.
