Wheel Speed Calculator – Diameter & RPM to Linear Speed
Calculate linear wheel speed from wheel diameter in metres and rotational speed in RPM, with m/s and km/h output.
The calculator converts rotational wheel speed into linear speed from the wheel circumference and revolutions per minute.
How it works
v = π × diameter × RPM / 60. The main result is m/s and the implementation also shows km/h.
Example
A 0.2 m wheel at 120 RPM gives v ≈ π × 0.2 × 120 / 60 ≈ 1.257 m/s, or about 4.52 km/h.
How to use
- Enter wheel diameter in metres.
- Enter wheel speed in RPM.
- Calculate linear speed.
- Review m/s and the helper value in km/h.
Key features
- Diameter and RPM inputs
- m/s result
- km/h helper output
- Positive-diameter validation
Common uses
- Mobile robot speed estimates
- Wheel and motor examples
- Comparing wheel sizes at the same RPM
Frequently asked questions
Does this include wheel slip?
No. It is the theoretical linear speed from wheel circumference and RPM.
Why divide by 60?
RPM is revolutions per minute, so dividing by 60 converts the result to a per-second basis.
